Barracouta Thyrsites atun

Barracouta are found throughout New Zealand but are especially abundant south of the East Cape/Taranaki. Swimming in schools, this predatory fish has very sharp teeth and smooth skin.

Oily, with lots of large bones, they are best grilled, fried or smoked.
