Foreign Charter Vessel Recommendations Supported

Sanford Limited is very supportive of the strengthening of compliance requirements in respect to foreign charter vessels as proposed in the Ministerial enquiry report released today.

Sanford has had a policy of 100% observer coverage on its charter vessels for the last 10 years and has encouraged other operators to follow suit.

The increased accountability and traceability of requirements and actions of the New Zealand charter vessel operators should prevent the unsatisfactory actions that have apparently been occurring on some charter vessels.

We are ready to work pro-actively with Government departments on the strengthening of their monitoring and compliance. We think the enquiry team have done excellent work in its investigations into the detailed issues involved and summarising those into their 15 recommendations.
